Easy Nail Tutorial: Leopard Print

the finished look on my nails (click photo to enlarge)

A great nail design that anyone can easily achieve is a leopard print design. The leopard print can be done in a variety of traditional or non traditional colors, it is a classic look that never goes out of style and will compliment a variety of different outfits. For this tutorial I will be showing you how to create pink leopard print on your nail, a traditional beige/brown, and a green leopard print but any two colors of your choice will work fine. You will simply need two different shades of the same color, one lighter and one darker and black nail polish or acrylic paint. So let's get started.

STEP ONE: Paint your nails with two coats of your desired color

Step One: So for step one I just painted each nail with two coats of my desired color. Since I am creating green, pink, and gold leopard print nails I used the lighter shade of these particular colors first

Green: Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Extreme Wear #340 "Mint Sorbet"= $2.60-$2.99
  Beige/gold: NYC in a New York Minute #212= $1.80-$1.99
Pink: Wet and Wild #402 "Tickled Pink"= $0.99

Step Two: Using the darker shade of the two colors make dots of different sizes all over the nail

Step Two: In Step two choose the darker of the two shades and using a dotting tool or a homemade version such as a toothpick or a inexpensive ballpoint pen, make dots in different sizes all over the nail. The important part is they do not have to be neat or exact in fact this design actually looks more realistic if they are not perfectly round exact dots. Make sure not to put too many dots on the nail though since we will be outlining them to complete the leopard spots.

Dark Green: Purchased overseas but any dark green will work fine
Dark Brown: Joann's Craft Essentials #72028 Brown= $0.59
Dark Pink: China Glaze= $5.99 Sally Beauty Supply  but I purchased this from a swap meet for $1.50

Step Three: Using black acrylic paint and our dotting tool or the homemade versions I talked about in Step Two outline our spots using C and backwards C shapes. Do not have all the C shapes facing the same direction or it will not be realistic looking. Add a few black splotches in the blank spaces to finish out the look., Remember since we used acrylic paint it is very important to finish out with a topcoat to seal in the design since acrylic paint will just wash off without it.

Black acrylic paint: Joann's Craft Essentials: #72034 Black=$0.59
Double ended Dotting Tool= $1.79 Joann's Craft store
Painters Palette=$2.99 Joann's Craft Store

This design is very easy for anyone to achieve since it does not require you to be neat or precise. Just remember practice makes perfect. Good luck!! <3
