Hand painted One Stroke Rose |
This week I wanted to try more practice using the one stroke technique for painting flowers. If you're not familiar with one stroke it is a technique that involves dipping each side of a flat brush into two different colors of paint, placing it flat on the nail, then moving the brush up and down in a waving pattern to create a petal shape. Now I have never been much of an "artiste" but I really like this technique and have been trying to practice it, even though I find it quite difficult. And I actually think I'm slowly getting better. I used a small flat top nail art brush to create the flower and petals and a very very small dotting tool for the white dots. These tools can be purchased easily and cheaply on Ebay, I got a 15 pc brush set for only $2.85. I will include the link below. I used acrylic paint for the design, mine were purchased at Joann's for only $0.59 each.
This week I did a rose design with petals and small dots just on my big toes. I wanted a color that would stand out enough so I chose a new color I just got in a set of three yesterday called "Super Bossa Nova" from Essie's Summer 2011 collection. I don't know why Ross is all of a sudden selling Essie nail polishes for $3 a piece but since they usually retail at $8 and up I love getting this deal. The formula is pretty good it only needed two coats for full opacity. I have a color somewhat similar to it in my collection but it is not an exact dupe which is why I decided not to do a blogpost. But Sinful Colors "forget now" #814 is very similar, the only difference is the sinful colors polish is much more shimmery with very fine hot pink microglitters, the Essie is also shimmery but not nearly as much. As I start to use more Essie (thanks to Ross, because I would never pay $8 for a nail polish) I find myself more and more impressed, it really is high quality smooth highly pigmented polish. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy this week's toenail art design. Have a great week!!
