Nail of the week: spring water marble

This week's nail of the week is a first for this blog, a water marble. I never do water marble because usually I find it very difficult, the colors never spread in the water correctly, and even when they do, it's hard to drag the colors to make the marble without it looking like a big multicolored blob. But I decided to give it a whirl again, and I was reasonably happy with the results. I chose three colors that represent spring to me, a beautiful dark pink, a mint green, and a dark jade green. These colors reminded me of a beautiful flower. I love that every nail is unique with water marbling.

1) chose your colors, it can be any color combination
Tips:
  • DO NOT chose any glitter colors, for me cream finish polishes work better then shimmer finishes.
  • Try to also pick a polish with a thicker formula
  •  put scotch tape on your finger covering all sides of the fingernail leaving the nail completely exposed.
2) fill a small bowl with med temperature water
Tip:
  • let it sit for 20 minutes or so so it is room temperature)
3) loosen the caps on all your polishes so they are ready to go. It is important to work quickly with water marbling.
4) drop one drop of your first polish into the water and let it spread out.
Tip:
  • if it does not spread lightly tap the side of the bowl.
5) working quickly, drop one drop of your next color over the top of the first.
6) continue dropping one drop of each of your polishes on top of the other colors in a bulls eye pattern until you are satisfied with your color combination.
7) taking a pin or a sharp object drag the bulls eye in towards the center until you make a pattern you like
8) quickly dip your finger into the water on top of the swirl pattern you made
9) leave it sitting in the water for ten seconds
10) while your finger is in the water use the sharp object to clean the excess polish out of the water around your nail
11) after polish has set for 20 seconds carefully peel off tape around the finger
12) OPTIONAL: use a small size dotting tool to add dots to the design
